Reading Mastery Transformations®
Implementation Study

Grades K–5

We invite your district to apply!

McGraw Hill is planning to conduct a classroom evaluation study focused on the implementation of Reading Mastery Transformations in Grades K–5. The study will examine student growth in reading during the 2025–2026 school year. We will additionally study how the program is used and solicit feedback about its impact on student engagement and reading ability.

Participation Requirements and Time Commitment

To be eligible for this research study, your district must:

  • Commit to implementing Reading Mastery Transformations comprehensive program in person with fidelity—an estimated 6–10-hour time commitment per week.
    • Fidelity requirements:
      • Teachers have been trained and (internal or external) support/coaching is ongoing.
      • Placement tests are administered at the beginning of the year.
      • Adequate time is allotted for lessons each day (varies by content and grade level).
      • Lesson progress is being made (about 4–5 lessons per week).
      • Assessments must be used, and data must be entered.
      • Remedy lessons/exercises are implemented as recommended.

  • Provide access to de-identified student-level data from district benchmark assessments (e.g. DIBELS, iReady) for Grades K–5 for 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 for analysis and inclusion in a written report—approximately 2–3 hours total.

  • Provide access to available de-identified student-level data from district/state summative assessments for Grades 3–5 for 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 for analysis and inclusion in a written report—approximately 2–3 hours total.

  • Allow periodic, on-site classroom observations to be arranged at the convenience of the schools—2 hours total.

  • Complete a spring interview about the teacher’s experience using Reading Mastery Transformations—approximately 45–60 minutes total.

Why Participate?

Districts that complete all study requirements will receive a report of the study findings and will be eligible to receive incentives in compliance with district rules.
